Georgian Mahogany Slant Front Bureau Antique Writing Desk with Fitted Interior

This elegant antique bureau is thought to be a beautiful example of Georgian craftsmanship. Handcrafted from rich, flamed mahogany, it has developed a warm, mellow patina over time, highlighting the natural beauty of the wood grain.

The fall-front opens smoothly to reveal a thoughtfully arranged interior, complete with pigeonholes, small drawers, and a central compartment – ideal for storing stationery, keepsakes, or correspondence.

The exterior features four drawers – two short over two full-width – each fitted with classic brass batwing handles that are appropriate replacements for the originals.

The dovetail joints are hand-cut, as you’d expect from a piece of this age, and the craftsmanship throughout is solid and refined. Supporting the drop-front are two traditional pull-out lopers, and the whole piece rests on neatly shaped bracket feet, giving it a grounded, well-proportioned silhouette.

Internally, the bureau has been carefully treated with a nourishing hemp-based wood balm, delicately scented with citrus. This balm revives and enriches the natural character of the timber while leaving a clean, refreshed feel throughout. It’s a quiet detail that adds both quality and care to the piece.

Please note: there are some minor signs of historic woodworm, as is often the case with antique furniture of this period. The bureau has been fully treated as a precaution and is structurally sound throughout. Additionally, there is a small historic split to the side panel, shown clearly in the photos. This is purely cosmetic, stable, and does not affect the integrity or use of the piece.

Nationwide delivery is available.

We arrange delivery with one of our trusted furniture couriers - this will generally be a one-man service and help will be needed to unload the item at the buyer’s home.  If a two-man service is required there may be an extra charge. 

We charge a flat rate of £60 for delivery to mainland UK.
